Shortlife
Council notes that the Liberal Democrat Group has released the following statement:The Lambeth Liberal Democrat Group calls for an immediate moratorium on all further evictions of shortlife tenants and disposals of recalled shortlife properties in order to allow for external mediation and to allow an assessment to be carried out on the impact so far of the Council’s shortlife policy, including its financial and social implications, the loss of social housing and the impacts on shortlife residents, and the provision of alternative accommodation.
Many of the shortlife tenants, who are losing their homes, are members of housing Coops which are being destroyed by a Labour run local authority which purports to be a Cooperative Council. We are calling on the Labour administration to take a more sympathetic and flexible approach.
Council resolves to consider and adopt the recommendations and report back on progress to Full Council in November 2013.
